“stunning…”
“vibrant and charismatic style…”
“shines on stage…”
Kristin Fung is a singer, pianist, songwriter and band leader based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Trained in Classical Voice at the University of British Columbia, she spent her summers at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, allowing her to fully realize her voracious appetite for the sounds of R&B, jazz, soul and funk. In 2010, her six-piece band made its debut in front of more than a thousand spectators at a Canada Day festival showcase on Granville Island.
Kristin's performance history spans musical theatre — in 2003 she won the E.V. Young Award for Most Outstanding Performance at Theatre Under the Stars — to gospel — she fronted the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir as a soloist — to free improvised music: She was a featured soloist in the world debut of Anthony Braxton's Sonic Genome Project, part of the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad. "I feel that you really understand what we're trying to do here," the musical pioneer Braxton told Kristin after her performance. "We recognize a diamond when we see one."
Kristin's vibrant melodies, lyrics and exuberant stage presence are influenced by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Jill Scott, and Stevie Wonder.
